Lepai LP-2020TI Digital Hi-Fi Audio Mini Class D Stereo Amplifier with Power Supply

Continuing the Legacy

For years the LP-2020A+ dominated the mini amp arena, but due to the scarcity of the Tripath TA2020 amp chip, Lepai is phasing out this very popular amp. However, emerging from its decline is the Lepai LP-2020TI. Identical in form and function this little amplifier has the same set of inputs and the same front panel controls, but where it differs is the insides, and it is truly remarkable what the engineers at Lepai have created in the LP-2020TI.

Making a name for itself

Fitted with a TPA3118 Class D amplifier chip, this mini amp produces efficient audio, with extremely low distortion, and it runs cool while doing it. A 12 VDC, 3A power supply is included with this amp, which is ample power to drive almost any speaker. But one amazing feature of the LP-2020TI is its ability to run on a wide range of voltages; 4.5-24 VDC. That means you can run this amp in a portable application using only 3 AA batteries or you can upgrade your power supply to maximize its full potential.

All the features you need

Simple and straightforward, this amp is easy to use. To get started, just plug in your power supply, connect speaker wire between your speakers and the spring loaded terminals on the back panel, connect a source device using either the 3.5 mm AUX input or stereo RCA jacks, turn it on and rock out. Customize your sound using the bass and treble controls or push the "Direct" button to bypass this circuit for a more pure listening experience. The oversized front knob controls the volume smoothly and is encircled by an array of blue light. Mounting tabs on the sides of this amp make it easy to securely mount this amp into turnkey DIY projects. Enjoy great sounding, easy-to-operate audio and more features than you would expect in an amp in this price range with the Lepai LP2020TI.

Specifications: • Power output: 2 x 20 watts RMS • Speaker impedance: 4-8 ohms • SNR: >102 dB • Input impedance: 47k ohms • Frequency response: 20 Hz - 22 kHz • Input sensitivity: 200 mV • Minimum THD: <0.1% • Dimensions: 4.72" D x 5.79" W x 1.65" H.

Power Supply Specifications: • Input: 100~240 VAC, 50-60 Hz • Output: 12 VDC, 3A (minimum) • 2.1 x 5.5 plug.

Please Note: The included power supply is capable of driving this amp at 2 x 15 watts per channel. To realize the full potential of this amp (>20 watts per channel), we recommend a power supply that is capable of producing 60 watts of total output.

THE SUCESSOR to LEPAI's Most Popular Amplifier

Scarcity,

Engineering,

Performance

and Value

"This new amplifier from Lepai...

overcomes its predecessor in

both flexibility and performance."

The famous Tripath TA2020 amp chip gives the Lepai LP-2020A+ its heart and soul, providing the listener with Class AB precision and warmth while maintaining the efficiency of a Class D amplifier. It’s the best of both worlds and what makes it even better is you can get all of this for less than $30. Unfortunately, the Tripath TA2020 is an endangered species ever since the Tripath company was purchased by Cirrus Logic in 2007. The scarcity of this amplifier chip is especially troubling given that it was listed by IEEE Spectrum Magazine as one of the 25 microchips that shook the world. Each year there are fewer and fewer of these authentic Tripath chips available for manufacturing. Other knock-off versions of this amp dubiously use replacement chips while claiming to incorporate the Tripath 2020, but not Lepai. Thus the days are numbered for the Lepai LP-2020A+.

Tasked with the challenge to develop a successor to the LP-2020A+, Lepai engineers knew they had to design an amp that combined efficiency, sound quality, and value — and they did it.

Focusing their design around the TPA3118 amp chip, they created the LP-2020TI. This new amplifier from Lepai, though it contains no legacy amplifier chips, overcomes its predecessor in both flexibility and performance. With standard features like short circuit and thermal protection, this amp requires no special knowledge to operate. In fact, it will run on 4.5V - 24V DC expanding the possibilities of project integration. Whether you want to use the Lepai LP-2020TI in a low-voltage portable audio project or use it to drive a set of tower speakers, this little amp is up to the challenge.

Using the Audio Precision Analyzer, an industry standard in measuring audio equipment, the LP-2020TI comes out a real winner - it easily out performs the LP- 2020A+. Measuring THD+N vs Frequency the LP-2020TI produces 14 watts per channel at 1% distortion when playing a 1 kHz tone. This is double the power output at 1% THD+N that the LP-2020A+ is capable of at 7 watts per channel. This means your speakers will get double the power from the LP-2020TI at the same distortion level as the Lepai LP-2020A+. The sound is crisp, the lows are solid, and the amp stays cool. Keep in mind that this test was power supply limited at 12 VDC, 3A. Since this amp can run on higher voltages, the true potential of this amp is greater than what is shared here.

So, even though an old classic is fading away, know that a solid performer with dependable output is ready and willing to be your next favorite amp.
